derby double

Round 4 saw Elizabeth travel up the road to face Smithfield in the local derby. Like any good derby the games are always close between the two sides and yesterday was no different. The B grade started the celebrations with their third win in a row then the A grade finished the job getting over the line by a solitary point.

Not since 1997 have the A grade won at Smithfield. They have been very close on a number of occassions leading throughout the last quarter only to stumble falling at the final hurdle. But its those results that made yesterdays win that much sweeter.

As expected it was a tight, hard fought game and both teams were as desperate for the win as the other. The lead exchanged a few times in the final quarter, in no small part thanks to a few dubious 25m penalties in the Smithfield forward line. But the boys stuck to their task and earnt themselves a great win.

The B grade lead all day to record another good win but the intensity was down from the previous week. The ball movement was very good in patches and once again finishing in front of goal was very good. But the willingness to work hard, get number to contest or be an option at the next contest was less impressive. Of course any win in the derby is a good one and the boys should be please with the result.

The numbers on the track are excellent and the feeling is good around the club. This week Elizabeth play at home against Plympton and hope to have plenty of support in what will be another tough contest.

Congratulations to Trent Greenshields who played his 100th senior game for the club on the weekend.

After disappearing into the ether for a while we are back for another year. The content is a little out of date but we will be working to get you up to date as soon as possible.

Both grades have started well this year. The A grade are undefeated after 3 round and the B grade have two wins.
